The Importance of Cable Avoidance Training

blog 20 May 2024

In the world beneath our feet lies a labyrinth of infrastructure vital to our modern lives. Pipelines, cables, and various utilities crisscross underground, ensuring the smooth functioning of our communities.

Locating buried services accurately is crucial for avoiding damage during construction, maintenance, or excavation projects. Damage to underground cable poses a serious risk, potentially resulting in fatalities or injuries to individuals. Additionally, there is the disruption and environmental damage, any delays in the project will likely result in additional costs.

This emphasises how important it is to have skilled experts trained in the most up-to-date technologies to navigate underground environments with safety and efficiency.

In accordance with current HSE guidance and regulations, anyone excavating and conducting work on or near underground services, should be aware of the potential dangers. Detection tools such as GPR used alongside CAT & Genny can aid in cable avoidance. The guidance states that anyone using detection equipment should be thoroughly trained on their use.

We are thrilled to announce that Kevin Morley in our Survey team, is one of the first to gain both accreditations for Radiodetection’s stringent trainer assessment on the CAT & Genny 4 and RD8200 precision locator range.
