Sunbelt Rentals’ annual Charity Golf Day raised more than £36,000 for three charities. Hosted at JCB Golf and Country Club on the 19th June, the event brought together customers, suppliers and colleagues for a day of friendly competition and fundraising.
Funds were raised through sponsorship of the charity golf tournament, a raffle, and an auction led by John Conteh, ex professional boxer from the 70’s, held in the Champions Lounge.
As part of their purpose, equipping people to transform spaces, places and lives, this event raised funds for charities across the UK. The three charities, which are Green Corridor in London, APEX Scotland and the Midlands Air Ambulance each received £12,000, which will go a long way towards helping them continue their inspirational work.
Green Corridor works from specially created horticulture and catering facilities and helps young people with special educational needs and learning disabilities achieve qualifications, independence, and confidence. They are planning to use the money to redesign and fit out a classroom to closely resemble a commercial kitchen, which will ease anxiety in learners as they transition into employment. The work they do has been described as life changing by families and the much-needed funds will be a huge help at a time when they are struggling for donations.
APEX Scotland is a specialist organisation which, for over 35 years, has contributed to a safer Scotland by supporting people with criminal convictions or at risk of committing offences to give them the necessary skills to change their behaviour and lead fulfilling lives. The money will be used to support its Apex Foundation Programme in Edinburgh, which is focussed on barrier removal and supporting people through 1:2:1 mentoring and group work to help them gain and sustain employment.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity operates three air ambulance helicopters and a fleet of critical care cars serving the communities in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, the West Midlands, and Worcestershire. Since 1991, the charity has responded to more than 74,000 missions, making it one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK. Each air ambulance mission costs an average of £2,950 and the critical car care costs around £288 per call out, which means the £12,000 donation could save the lives of more than 10 people.
Phil Parker, CEO of Sunbelt Rentals, expressed his thanks to all of those who contributed to the success of the charity golf day and donated towards the charities.
He said: “I want to extend my appreciation to our colleagues, customers, and suppliers for their generosity at this year’s event. Together, we've raised an impressive £36,000, which will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals and communities across the country.”
